Countries with most 4G coverage - Mapped

The Government's National Infrastructure Commission has warned that Britain is "languishing in the digital slow lane"with 80 per cent of rural premises in a 4G "not spot" and even major city centres lacking coverage.

As the map below shows, the UK ranks below the likes of Romania, Colombia, Bulgaria and Morocco when it comes to 4G availability, occupying a rather lowly 54th position out of 78 nations.

According to the website OpenSignal, Britain's 4G users can expect to find a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) signal 57.94 per cent of the time. By comparison, the figure for South Korea - the top rated country in OpenSignal's most recent report, published last month - is 95.71 per cent.

The presence of Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore in the top 10 is to be expected. But the appearance of Lithuania in third place might surprise. In fact, the Baltic nation has long been a world leader when it comes to connectivity. It ranks 15th out of 200 destinations when it comes to average internet speeds, according to a recent report by Akamai Technologies.
