BMW SHOWED THE CROSSOVER X2 -2018

BMW SHOWED THE CROSSOVER X2 -2018. The company BMW introduced a serial crossover X2, very similar to last year's concept.

2016 BMW X1

Dimensions of the machine - 4360 x 1824 x 1526 mm, it is shorter, lower and slightly wider than X1. Wheelbase, as in the "X-first" - 2070 mm. The volume of the trunk is 470-1355 liters. Ground clearance - 182 mm.

While all the engines are four-cylinder, two-liter, turbocharged.

These are two diesel engines for 190 and 231 hp.

with an eight-speed "automatic" and all-wheel drive and a gasoline engine with a power of 192 hp. in combination with a front-wheel drive and a seven-speed box.

Later, the crossover will acquire a three-cylinder engine with a power of 140 hp, as well as with a diesel engine deformed to 150. The M-version is still in doubt.

X2 has three options for choice: basic, M Sport and M Sport X. Differences - in bumpers, wheels, overlays on doors, as well as colors and interior materials.

BMW SHOWED THE CROSSOVER X2 -2018 specification and performance

No stranger to niche models, BMW is developing a new segment-defying model that’s tentatively called X2.

When it goes on sale, the X2 will be billed as a slinkier, more sport-focused version of the second-generation X1 (pictured) that was introduced recently at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It will feature a sleeker roof line than its more family-oriented sibling but its C-pillar won’t be as rakish and coupe-like as the X4‘s and the X6‘s, a concession made in order to give the passengers sitting in the back a relatively comfortable amount of head room.

Broadly speaking, the bulk of the interior components will be lifted straight from the X1 parts bin. That means the X2 will boast a familiar no-nonsense analog instrument cluster with four gauges, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, and a center console that’s slightly oriented toward the driver.

Like the X1, the X2 will share its modular front-wheel drive platform — called UKL in BMW-speak — with the 2 Series Active Tourer that’s sold exclusively in Europe, and with the third generation of the MINI Hardtop, among others. In the United States, the X2 will launch with a transversally mounted 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine tuned to send 228 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

A front-wheel drive entry-level model is expected to join the lineup a few months into the production run. At the other end of the spectrum, BMW’s M division will introduce a hot-rodded version of the X2 that could pack over 300 ponies under the hood.

BMW is expected to preview the X2 by revealing a close-to-production concept at a major auto show in the coming months. The production model will be unveiled shortly after, and it will go on sale as a 2017 model. It will cost a little more than the X1, which carries a base price of $34,800.

Orange you glad BMW offers such a high level of customization?

BMW has ruled out the idea of introducing a fully fledged M version of a front-wheel-drive-based model, and while the X2 M35i is only an M Performance model, it still has the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever installed in a Bimmer. Deliveries to customers are scheduled to kick off next month in Europe, while over in the United Arab Emirates, the famous BMW Abu Dhabi dealer just took delivery of a high-spec version.

Finished in a shade called Mineral Grey, the X1 crossover’s fancier sibling rides on 20-inch lightweight wheels finished in Cerium Gray to complement the swoopy and relatively tall body. What sets this X2 M35i apart are the not-so-subtle orange accents we weren’t expecting to see on a predominantly gray vehicle. These are noticeable not just on the body, but also on the M-branded alloys to contrast the blue brake calipers adorned with the “M” logo hiding behind.

Those orange stripes on the lower front grille, side sills, and on the rear diffuser have a correspondent inside the crossover’s cabin where the leather upholstery has a similar finish. Not only that, but the door cards are partially finished in orange, much like the lower section of the dashboard and most of the center console. Even the central armrest has that vibrant color, and it would be interesting to see how it will withstand the test of time after several years of heavy use.

Flashy spec aside, this X2 rides lower to the ground thanks to its M Sport suspension tailored to the M35i variant. xDrive comes as standard on the range topper, and so does launch control enabling the potent compact crossover to hit 62 mph (100 kph) in just 4.9 seconds thanks to 302 horsepower and especially due to the generous torque of 332 pound-feet (450 Newton-meters).

As a refresher, the BMW X2 kicks off at $36,400 in the United States, but the M35i costs an additional $10,050, and that’s before you begin to tick the options boxes of the configurator.
